Collection: Trailing & Hanging Hoya Plants

Bring your shelves, plant stands, and hanging baskets to life with trailing and hanging Hoya plants. Hoyas are tropical vining houseplants prized for their beautiful foliage, fragrant flowers, and easy-care nature. As they mature, many varieties produce long cascading vines that make them some of the most rewarding hanging indoor plants you can grow.

At Hoya Treasures, I carefully grow and select trailing Hoyas that develop beautiful vines, whether displayed on a shelf, climbing a support, or spilling naturally over the edge of a hanging basket.

What Is a Trailing Hoya?

A trailing Hoya is simply a Hoya that is allowed to grow naturally without climbing a trellis or support. Most Hoyas are climbing vines in their native habitats, but indoors they often produce beautiful cascading vines that make them excellent hanging houseplants.

Many trailing Hoyas eventually produce clusters of waxy, star-shaped flowers known for their sweet fragrance.

Why Grow a Trailing Hoya?

People love trailing Hoyas because they offer the best of both foliage and flowers.

Some of the reasons they're popular include:

• Long cascading vines

• Beautiful leaves in a wide range of colors, shapes, and textures

• Fragrant blooms on mature plants

• Long-lived plants that become more impressive with age

• Easy propagation from stem cuttings

• Excellent indoor houseplants

My Favorite Way to Grow Them

These trailing Hoyas are some of my favorite plants because I think they look their best spilling naturally over the edge of a pot or growing in a hanging basket.

Many of the varieties in this collection have smaller leaves and grow quickly enough to fill in a pot over time. If you'd like an even fuller plant, one of my favorite tricks is to take cuttings from your longest vine once it's established, root them, and plant them back into the same pot. As those cuttings grow, they'll create a thicker, bushier plant while still producing beautiful trailing vines.

What Makes a Good Hanging Hoya?

While almost any Hoya can be displayed in a hanging basket, some varieties naturally develop a fuller trailing habit.

Plants in this collection may offer features such as:

• Flexible trailing vines

• Compact growth

• Vigorous branching

• Small or medium-sized leaves

• Fast growth under good conditions
