Hoya chiang dao (Silver) Care & Details
-
Origin: Hoya sp. Chiang Dao (Silver) is an unidentified Hoya associated with Chiang Dao District in Chiang Mai Province, northern Thailand. It remains in cultivation under the locality name “Chiang Dao” rather than a formally published species name. Its thick foliage and growth can resemble Hoya kerrii, which has led to speculation among collectors that H. kerrii may be involved in its ancestry; however, I could not find a published botanical study confirming that parentage. Until its identity is formally established, it is most accurate to refer to the plant as Hoya sp. Chiang Dao (Silver).
-
Foliage: Features thick, succulent-like leaves with attractive silver splash markings. The amount and pattern of silver can vary from leaf to leaf, giving each new leaf a unique appearance. Its growth habit and foliage are often compared to Hoya kerrii.
-
Growth Rate: Moderate grower under warm conditions with bright light.
-
Watering: Allow the potting mix to partially dry between waterings. Like most Hoyas, it prefers not to sit in constantly wet soil.
-
Light Requirements: Thrives in bright indirect light. This plant has performed well approximately 8 inches beneath double Barrina T5 lights for 14 hours per day.
-
Ideal Temperature & Humidity: Grows well around 85°F with humidity levels between 70–75%.
-
General Hoya Care: Use a chunky, well-draining potting mix, avoid overwatering, and provide bright indirect light for best growth. For detailed care instructions, visit: https://hoyatreasures.com/pages/caring-for-hoya
