Hoya Cianjur Silver is a collector Hoya I especially like for its substantial foliage. The oval green leaves develop a beautiful silver splash, but what really sets this plant apart is their thickness—they are noticeably thicker and more substantial than the Hoya lacunosa types it is sometimes confused with.

This rooted cutting comes established with new growth in a 2-inch pot, giving you a strong start with an unusual silver Hoya that looks attractive long before it reaches flowering size.

Hoya Cianjur Silver Rooted Cutting Care & Details

  • Origin: This plant is commonly sold in cultivation as Hoya sp. Cianjur, referring to Cianjur in West Java, Indonesia. Sources in the horticultural trade describe it as originating from Java, but I could not find a formally published botanical description establishing a scientific species name for this plant.
  • Leaves: The foliage is oval to somewhat rounded, green, and decorated with varying amounts of silvery splash. The leaves have a thick, firm, substantial feel rather than the thinner foliage associated with Hoya lacunosa. That heavier texture combined with the silver markings gives this plant a distinctive look even when it is not blooming.
  • Growth Rate: Expect moderate growth under warm, bright growing conditions. Once established, providing consistent warmth, light, and proper watering helps encourage longer vines and new foliage.
  • Watering: Allow the potting mix to dry partially between waterings rather than keeping it constantly wet. The thick leaves store moisture well, so consistently soggy conditions are unnecessary and can put the roots at risk. Water thoroughly when needed, then allow excess water to drain.
  • Light: Bright indirect light encourages compact growth and helps the silver markings show to their best advantage. This plant can also be grown successfully under Barrina T5 lights; a bright grow-light setup is especially useful when natural window light is limited.
  • Ideal Temperature & Humidity: Mine grows at approximately 75°F with 60–65% humidity. Warm household temperatures combined with moderate humidity provide a comfortable environment without requiring greenhouse-level conditions.
  • General Hoya Care: Grow in a chunky, well-draining medium with good airflow around the roots, avoid prolonged wet conditions, and provide plenty of bright indirect light. Hoyas generally appreciate being allowed to establish before unnecessary repotting or root disturbance. For my complete growing routine, see my Hoya care guide.

Why Customers Love It

Collectors love Hoya Cianjur Silver because it combines thick, substantial leaves with eye-catching silver splash and a look that is noticeably different from the lacunosa forms with which it is sometimes confused. It offers plenty of foliage interest while young, making it a rewarding choice for anyone building a collection of unusual silver Hoyas.
