Origin & background: ‘Crocodile’ is a cultivated Hoya selection whose exact provenance is not yet well documented. It is commonly reported in cultivation as a seed-grown selection associated with Hoya fitchii ‘Yellow,’ sometimes described as “clone 2” and as a seed sister to Hoya ‘Candy.’
Leaves: The foliage is the main attraction. Leaves are thick and firm with a noticeably textured, almost embossed surface that gives the plant its “Crocodile” look. Individual leaves may show varying amounts of green, cream, pale yellow, and mottled variegation, so the pattern can change substantially from one leaf to the next. That variability makes mature vines especially interesting, although the amount of variegation on future growth cannot be guaranteed.
Watering: Water according to how quickly the growing medium dries rather than following a fixed weekly schedule. For a small 2-inch plant, check the pot frequently because a small root zone can dry surprisingly quickly. Water thoroughly when appropriate for your growing medium, provide good drainage and airflow around the roots, and avoid leaving the plant continuously saturated.
Light: Give Hoya ‘Crocodile’ plenty of bright light while avoiding sudden exposure to intense direct sun.
