Hoya sichuanensis is a charming species from China that has become increasingly sought after by collectors who appreciate compact foliage and easy-growing Hoyas.

Formerly circulated in the hobby as Hoya lyi NOID, further taxonomic study determined that it is actually Hoya sichuanensis. This rooted cutting in a 2-inch pot already has new growth, giving you a healthy start toward a full, climbing plant that stays attractive even when it's not in bloom.

Hoya sichuanensis Rooted Cutting Care & Details

  • Origin: Hoya sichuanensis is native to Sichuan Province, China, where it naturally grows climbing on slopes and cliffs near roadsides at elevations of approximately 600–1,000 meters (1,970–3,280 feet). It was previously sold in cultivation as Hoya lyi NOID before being correctly identified as Hoya sichuanensis. Scientific publication: Hoya of China by Xin-Shan Li, Rodda & Simonsson Juhonewe (2023), published in PhytoKeys.

  • Leaves: Produces small, narrow, succulent leaves that are noticeably thick and adapted to retain moisture. The compact foliage creates a tidy appearance and makes this species especially attractive as it climbs or trails.

  • Flowers: Produces clusters of small, star-shaped flowers. Detailed information about flower fragrance, size, color variation, and bloom longevity has not yet been well documented.

  • Growth Rate: Generally considered a moderate to fast grower when provided with warm temperatures, bright light, and consistent care.

  • Watering: Allow the potting mix to dry partially between waterings. Like most Hoyas, it appreciates good drainage and should not remain constantly wet.

  • Light: Prefers bright indirect light. For indoor growing, excellent results can be achieved by placing the plant about **12 inches below a single Barrina T5 lights for approximately 14 hours per day.

  • Temperature & Humidity: Thrives around 70–75°F with approximately 60–65% humidity.
