Hoya megalaster Care & Details
-
Origin: Hoya megalaster is a species native to Papua New Guinea. It was formally described by botanists Simonsson & Rodda in 2017 in the journal PhytoKeys as part of research on New Guinean Hoyas.
-
Leaves: Features thick, succulent-like leaves that help store moisture. The foliage is substantial and durable, giving the plant a lush, tropical appearance while making it more forgiving between waterings.
-
Flowers: Produces large, star-shaped flowers that are among the most impressive in the genus. The blooms are typically dark red to burgundy with a glossy appearance and are known for their dramatic size. Individual flowers can last for several days when conditions are favorable.
-
Growth Rate: Moderate grower when provided with warmth, humidity, and bright light.
-
Watering: Allow the potting mix to partially dry between waterings. Water thoroughly, then let excess moisture drain away.
-
Light: Prefers bright indirect light. This plant grows well approximately 12 inches beneath one Barrina T5 light for 14 hours per day.
-
Ideal Temperature & Humidity: Prefers warmer conditions than many Hoyas, with ideal temperatures around 85°F and humidity levels of 70–75%.
-
General Hoya Care: Use a well-draining mix, avoid overwatering, provide good airflow, and support climbing vines as they mature. For detailed growing instructions, visit: https://hoyatreasures.com/pages/caring-for-hoya
