Hoya micrantha (Regina Albo) brings a beautiful combination of green foliage and creamy-white outer variegation to any Hoya collection. The contrast between the two colors makes each leaf interesting, while the variegated growth adds character as the plant develops. This is an especially appealing choice for collectors who enjoy unusual foliage and watching new leaves emerge. You'll receive a rooted cutting with new growth in a 2-inch pot, giving you a wonderful start with this distinctive Hoya.
Hoya micrantha (Regina Albo) Rooted Cutting Care & Details
- Origin: Hoya micrantha is a naturally occurring species native to Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam. It grows as a climbing epiphyte or lithophyte in tropical environments. Regina Albo is a variegated form rather than a documented hybrid. The species was originally described in 1883 and examined in a later scientific publication, The Taxonomy of Hoya micrantha and Hoya revoluta, by Rodda and Simonsson Juhonewe (2013).
- Leaves: The main attraction of Regina Albo is its green foliage accented by creamy-white outer variegation. The variation in color creates a beautiful contrast, making the plant decorative even when it isn't flowering. As with other variegated Hoyas, the amount and placement of variegation can differ from leaf to leaf.
- Growth Rate: It is a fairly slow grower since the leaves are so thick. Variegated growth may develop more slowly than fully green growth because the lighter portions of the leaves contain less chlorophyll.
- Watering: Allow the potting mix to partially dry between waterings, then water thoroughly and let excess moisture drain. Avoid keeping the roots constantly wet. Check the potting mix rather than following a fixed watering schedule, especially with a small 2-inch pot.
- Lighting: Provide bright, indirect light to support healthy growth and maintain attractive variegation. Avoid harsh afternoon sunlight, which can damage the lighter areas of the leaves. If natural lighting is limited, Barrina T5 lights can provide supplemental lighting.
- Temperature & Humidity: This plant is growing in approximately 75°F temperatures with 60–65% humidity. These warm, moderately humid conditions provide a useful starting point when acclimating your new plant. Protect it from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.
- General Hoya Care: Use a chunky, well-draining growing medium with good airflow around the roots. Avoid overwatering, provide consistent warmth, and allow the plant to adjust gradually to its new environment after shipping. For additional information, visit our Caring for Hoya guide.
