Hoya mini Mamasa ssp. Longicorolla Rooted Cutting Care & Details
-
Origin: Hoya mamasa subsp. longicorolla is a naturally occurring subspecies from Sulawesi, Indonesia. Scientists documented it growing on trees in peat swamp forest beside Lake Towuti in South Sulawesi. Rahayu, Ahmad and Rodda formally described it in their 2022 scientific paper.
-
Leaves: Small, fleshy leaves measure approximately 1–1.5 cm long and range from oval to narrowly pointed. Pale to medium green foliage sometimes develops darker margins, while fine hairs add texture.
-
Flowers: Mature plants can produce downward-facing clusters of up to 10 tiny, yellow flowers flushed with red. Each flower has a slender tube measuring 4–7 mm long, ending in short triangular lobes—an unusual shape worth examining up close.
-
Watering: Check the growing medium frequently rather than following a weekly schedule. In an airy potting mix, water thoroughly after the mix has partially dried, then allow excess water to drain. Small pots of pon can dry quickly outside a self-watering setup, so monitor the pot’s weight and moisture closely.
-
Light: Start with bright, indirect light and gradually acclimate your plant to its growing spot. A grow light can help provide consistent light where window light is limited.
-
Temperature and humidity: I grow this Hoya at approximately 75°F with 60–65% humidity. These conditions give you a practical starting point for matching its current growing environment. Provide gentle airflow alongside the humidity.
-
General care: Keep the pot proportional to the roots and use an airy growing medium. Quarantine your new plant for three weeks and allow it to settle before routine repotting. Leave healthy flower spurs in place after blooming. See my complete Hoya care guide for watering, feeding, and acclimation instructions.
