Hoya pulleana is a naturally occurring Hoya species from western New Guinea, where it grows in the wet tropical biome. The species was formally described by botanists Michele Rodda and Nadhanielle Simonsson in 2022 as part of their taxonomic revision of Hoyas from Papuasia. The type specimen was collected much earlier, in 1913, by Dutch botanist August Adriaan Pulle near the Lorentz River in what is now Papua Province, Indonesia; the species was later named in his honor. Leaves: Hoya pulleana has unusually tiny, thick leaves that give it an adorable miniature look. The leaves are ovate to nearly round and measure only about 8–16 mm long by 5–12 mm wide. Despite their small size, they are quite substantial for such a miniature Hoya, measuring about 1–1.5 mm thick and described by the authors as very coriaceous, or leathery. The upper surface is smooth, while the underside may have sparse fine hairs. The rounded leaves and wiry stems make this species especially appealing for collectors who love truly small-leaved Hoyas.
Flowers: Hoya pulleana produces small umbels of approximately 3–9 flowers. Individual flowers are only about 7–10 mm across when flattened, making them appropriately miniature for the plant. The flowers range from white to light yellow-green, with recurved petal margins that make the pale corona especially prominent. The published botanical description does not report a fragrance or how long the flowers remain open, so I would leave those details out rather than speculate.
