Hoya 'Jita Silver' Care & Details
Hoya 'Jita Silver' is a beautiful silver Hoya with something many collector plants lack: a traceable history. The plant sold under this name can be traced to WRX02-Silver-01, the identifier for the original selection now known as Hoya 'Jita Silver'. Its heavily silvered foliage, vigorous growth, and delicate yellow-and-pink flowers make it attractive on its own, but its documented provenance makes it especially interesting for collectors who care about knowing what they are actually growing. This listing is for a rooted cutting with new growth in a 2-inch pot.
-
Origin & Provenance: Hoya 'Jita Silver' traces back to WRX02-Silver-01, the identifier associated with the original Jita Silver selection. A March 5, 2025 sale post by Jordan Bennett documents the plant under the full name H. 'Jita Silver' WRX02-Silver-01. This identifier is important because it ties plants sold as Jita Silver back to a particular selection rather than simply describing any unusually silver plant. You may also encounter it described as “Jita Silver Clone 1,” but WRX02-Silver-01 is the more precise identifier for the original selection. Parentage has been reported as Hoya ilagiorum (red form) × Hoya mindorensis (light yellow form), but I have not found a scientific publication or original breeding record that independently verifies that parentage, so it should be treated as reported rather than an established fact.
-
Foliage: The foliage is the main attraction. Hoya 'Jita Silver' produces elongated, substantial leaves covered with extensive silver mottling and splash. Some leaves can become heavily silvered, while others retain more visible green, so the pattern varies naturally as the plant grows. The leaves are thick and succulent-like, giving the plant a sturdy appearance in addition to its unusual coloration.
-
Flowers: Hoya 'Jita Silver' produces rounded umbels containing numerous small, star-shaped flowers. The flowers have soft buttery-yellow corollas topped by pale pink to peach, star-shaped coronas. The subtle colors are especially pretty against the heavily silvered foliage.
-
Growth Rate: In the right conditions, Hoya 'Jita Silver' can grow very quickly, producing new vines and leaves at a rewarding pace. Warm temperatures, strong light, and consistent care help support vigorous growth. This makes it a good choice for someone who wants a collectible Hoya that does more than sit on the shelf looking pretty.
-
Watering: Allow the potting mix to partially dry between waterings, then water thoroughly. Avoid keeping the roots continuously wet. How frequently you need to water will depend on temperature, humidity, light, potting mix, and pot size rather than a fixed schedule.
-
Light: Hoya 'Jita Silver' appreciates bright light and grows vigorously under strong artificial lighting. My plants are grown approximately 8 inches below double Barrina T5 grow lights for 14 hours per day. This gives you a useful reference point for the conditions in which the plant has been growing before it arrives, although lighting should always be adjusted for your own setup.
-
Temperature & Humidity: My plants are grown at approximately 85°F with 70–75% humidity. Warm temperatures and elevated humidity support vigorous growth, but conditions in individual homes and growing spaces will vary.
-
General Hoya Care: Hoyas generally do best with good drainage, plenty of light, appropriate watering, and warm indoor conditions. For more information about potting mix, watering, fertilizer, lighting, pests, and other growing questions, see our Hoya Care Guide.
Why Customers Love It
Hoya 'Jita Silver' combines the qualities that make a collector Hoya especially satisfying to grow: dramatically silvered foliage, attractive flowers, fast growth under the right conditions, and a documented identity that can be traced to WRX02-Silver-01. You'll receive a rooted cutting with active new growth in a 2-inch pot, so the plant has already moved beyond the unrooted-cutting stage and is ready to continue growing in your collection.
