I originally purchased my Hoya lacunosa ‘Scarlet Glow’ directly from Unsolicited Plant Talks. Now, cuttings from that plant bring its compact red foliage to your collection, with a known source behind the name. Your plant arrives as a rooted cutting with new growth in a 2-inch pot, giving you an established start with a Hoya that adds rich color among your green plants.
Hoya lacunosa ‘Scarlet Glow’ – Rooted Cutting Care & Details
Origin and provenance: Unsolicited Plant Talks describes ‘Scarlet Glow’ as a mutation of Hoya lacunosa ‘Bruno’ originating at Fendi Hoya Nursery in Indonesia. UPT previously sold this line as ‘Bruno’ (red). These cuttings come from my documented UPT purchase, not ‘Red Bruno’ stock of unknown origin.
Leaves: Small leaves with deep red coloring make this an appealing choice for collectors who enjoy colorful foliage without large leaves. UPT reports that its plants maintained their dark red color without supplemental grow lights or unusually intense light, so strong sun is not needed to chase that appearance. Color intensity can vary with growing conditions.
Flowers: Clusters of small, fuzzy, cream-to-white flowers carry the familiar, strong lacunosa fragrance, adding another reason to enjoy this plant as it matures. For scientific background on the species, see Rahayu and colleagues’ published study of Hoya lacunosa flowering.
Growth habit: The vines can cascade as they lengthen, making this a good choice for a shelf or hanging display. Your cutting already has new growth, giving you a head start as you grow it into a fuller plant.
Watering: Allow the growing medium to dry slightly between waterings, then water thoroughly and let excess water drain. A 2-inch pot can dry quickly, so check moisture frequently instead of following a fixed weekly schedule. Avoid leaving the roots in persistently soggy conditions.
Light: Provide bright, indirect light near a window or under Barrina T5 lights. Introduce stronger light gradually and protect the leaves from harsh midday sun.
Temperature and humidity: I grow mine at approximately 75°F with 60–65% humidity. These growing conditions provide a useful starting point for your own setup. Keep temperatures steady and maintain gentle airflow.
General Hoya care: Use an airy growing medium and a pot suited to the root system. Allow three weeks after arrival before routine repotting so your plant has time to acclimate. See my complete Hoya care guide for watering, fertilizing, growing media, and care after shipping.
