Hoya 'Strawberry Matcha' (UPT008) is one of those plants that surprises you more the longer you grow it. Originally selected from a silver form of Hoya verticillata var. verticillata, this unique clone stands out for its heavily splashed foliage that can develop stunning dark pink tones under higher light conditions. Whether you're building a rare Hoya collection or searching for a plant that constantly changes with its environment, Hoya 'Strawberry Matcha' delivers an ever-evolving display of color and texture.

  • Origin: Hoya 'Strawberry Matcha' originated from a silver form of Hoya verticillata var. verticillata (formerly sold as Hoya wibergiae Silver). Under the care of Unsolicited Plant Talks, one vine developed exceptionally silver foliage. Propagations from that vine were found to largely retain the distinctive silver splash characteristics.

  • Leaves: Thick, succulent leaves heavily covered in silver splash. One of its most desirable traits is the ability to develop deep pink to strawberry-colored tones when grown under brighter light, creating a striking contrast against the silver variegation.

  • Growth Rate: Moderate grower when provided with warm temperatures, bright light, and consistent care.

  • Watering: Allow the potting mix to dry partially between waterings. As with most Hoyas, avoid keeping the roots constantly wet.

  • Light: Bright indirect light. This plant was grown approximately 8 inches below double Barrina T5 lights for 14 hours per day. Higher light levels can encourage the desirable pink coloration.

  • Ideal Temperature & Humidity: Grown successfully at approximately 75°F with 62% humidity. Warm temperatures and moderate to high humidity support healthy growth.

  • General Hoya Care: Plant in a well-draining mix, provide bright indirect light, and avoid overwatering. For detailed care instructions, visit: https://hoyatreasures.com/pages/caring-for-hoya
