Hoya verticillata (Heart Leaf Silver) Rooted Cutting Care & Details

  • Origin: Hoya verticillata is native to Southeast Asia. "Heart Leaf Silver" is a cultivated form selected for its silvery foliage rather than a formally published hybrid.

  • Leaves: Thick, succulent leaves are broadly heart-shaped with a heavy silver splash that can cover much of the leaf surface, giving the plant a bright, metallic appearance even in ordinary indoor lighting. The fleshy foliage helps the plant tolerate short dry periods.

  • Flowers: Produces clusters of fuzzy, star-shaped flowers with a glossy center. Blooms are lightly fragrant, especially during the evening, last several days to over a week, and can rebloom from the same flower spurs when happy.

  • Growth Rate: Moderate to fast-growing under warm temperatures and bright light, producing attractive trailing vines over time.

  • Watering: Water thoroughly when the potting mix is mostly dry. Allowing the mix to partially dry between waterings helps maintain healthy roots.

  • Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. This plant grows especially well positioned about 8 inches beneath double Barrina T5 lights for approximately 14 hours per day, though a bright window with filtered light also works well.

  • Temperature & Humidity: Thrives around 75°F with approximately 62% humidity, but adapts well to average indoor household conditions.

  • General Care: Use a chunky, well-draining Hoya potting mix, avoid overwatering, and fertilize lightly during active growth. For more growing tips, visit our complete Hoya Care Guide.
